What pop-up and short-term retail costs in Sydney

Published daily rates for Sydney pop-up spaces run from about $60 to well over $3,000, and the spread tracks foot traffic and floor area almost exactly. Listing platforms report Sydney averages of roughly $120 an hour on Tagvenue and $153 on Peerspace, which is another way of saying most spaces are priced for events rather than trading weeks.

Small or secondary space$60–$200 / day (Bondi Beach, Avalon, Newtown, Rosebery)
Suburban shop or showroom$258–$600 / day (Alexandria, Paddington, Homebush)
Premium or large-format$1,125–$3,240 / day (CBD, Oxford St, Moorebank)
City of Sydney community space$751.50 / week, or $556.50 / day commercial

Published listing rates collected September 2026. Fit-out is separate and is not a universal charge β€” Sydney guides put a kiosk or cart at $5,000 to $20,000, a modular inline pop-up at $20,000 to $60,000, and a bespoke build well past $150,000. Most short lets are a flat fee; percentage-of-sales is a market-operator model, not a shopfront one.

Flat fee, percentage, or neither

Three structures turn up in Sydney and they are not interchangeable. A flat hire fee, by the hour, day or week, is how nearly every shopfront and listed space is sold β€” you pay it whether you sell anything or not. A percentage of takings is a market-operator model: the City of Sydney, for instance, charges market operators twenty per cent of gross stall-holder fees, with an introductory ten per cent for a new market's first year. And in a major shopping centre the licence fee and the fit-out contribution are separate conversations, neither of them published. Before comparing two numbers, work out which of the three you are being quoted.

How much does a pop-up shop cost in Sydney?

From about $60 a day for a small space in a secondary location, $258 to $600 a day for a suburban shop or showroom, and $1,125 a day and up for prime Oxford Street or CBD frontage. A week in a City of Sydney community space is $751.50.

Do I pay a percentage of my sales?

Usually not for a shopfront β€” short retail lets are almost always a flat fee. Percentage-of-takings is how market operators are charged, not how individual stallholders or pop-up tenants normally pay.

What about fit-out?

It is separate from the hire fee and it is the cost people underestimate. A cart or kiosk runs $5,000 to $20,000, a modular inline pop-up $20,000 to $60,000, and anything bespoke past $150,000. A space that is already fitted out for retail is worth a materially higher daily rate.
