Office for a Day in Sydney: Hourly, Daily or Monthly?

Sometimes you just need a proper office. A client meeting that can't happen at the kitchen table, a day of focus away from the kids, or a fortnight while your own space is being fitted out.

The tricky part is choosing how to pay. You can rent a room by the hour, an office by the day, a desk by the day, or sign up for a month. Each one makes sense for a different job. Here's what each costs in Sydney, with prices checked in October 2026, and a quick way to pick.

Four ways to get an office for a day

OptionWhat you getBest for
Meeting room by the hourA private room with a table, screen and doorClient meetings, interviews, workshops
Day officeA private office for one or two people, for the dayCalls all day, confidential work

Monthly desk or officeThe same desk or room, booked for a month or moreWorking away from home three or more days a week

What an office for a day costs in Sydney

Here's what a few providers were charging when we checked. Prices vary by suburb and by what's included, so treat this as a guide, not a quote.

Prices checked 12 October 2026 on each provider's own website or CoHub listing. They change, so confirm the current price before you book.

The pattern is clear. A private office for a full day in Sydney's suburbs starts at around $150. A desk costs about a third of that. A meeting room is the best value for a few hours and the worst value for a whole day.

Hourly, daily or monthly: which one fits?

Book by the hour when the room is the point

If you need a door that closes for a meeting, an interview or a presentation, pay for the hours you use. In Bankstown, a two-hour client meeting in CoHub's small room costs $110 after 2pm or $150 on a weekday morning. A boardroom for 10 costs $150 to $170 for the same two hours. There's more detail in our Bankstown meeting room price guide.

Watch for minimum hours and peak rates. They're common, and they change the total more than the headline price does.

Book by the day when you need to focus

For a full day of laptop work, a desk is the cheapest option by a long way: $55 to $60 a day in Bankstown. If you need privacy for calls all day, a day office from around $150 is better value than holding a meeting room for eight hours.

A useful middle path is a desk for the day plus a room for the hour you actually meet someone.

Book by the month when you're there most days

If you'd use a space three or more days a week, monthly usually wins. As a rough guide, monthly hot-desk plans around Sydney start near $200 a month for part-time access and $400 to $460 for full-time (Oran Park Smart Work Hub, WOTSO Liverpool, Hub Australia; checked 12 October 2026, some plus GST). Private offices start higher, from $640 a month at the provider above.

On CoHub there's no membership or lock-in. One of the Bankstown desks drops to $35 a day for 7 or more days and $25 a day for 30 or more ($750 for 30 days), so you can book a month at a time and stop when you're done.

Do you need a dedicated desk?

A dedicated desk is the same desk, kept for you, every day you're booked. You can leave a monitor and your files there. A hot desk is first come, first served.

A dedicated desk is worth it if you:

  • work from the space most weekdays,
  • want to leave equipment set up, or
  • need a lockable drawer for files.

If you're in once or twice a week, a hot desk or day booking is usually cheaper. The Bankstown desks on CoHub come with a monitor, an ergonomic chair and lockable drawers (desk 1), or an L-shaped desk with a divider and a lockable drawer unit (desk 2). Book the same desk for a run of days and it's yours for those days.

What to check before you book

  1. The total, not the headline. Add peak rates, minimum hours, GST and any booking or cleaning fees.
  2. Access hours. Can you get in at 7am or stay until 7pm?
  3. Calls. Is there somewhere private to take a call if you're at a desk?
  4. Wifi and power. Ask about speed, and whether there's power at the desk.
  5. Parking and transport. Check both before you book a 9am start.
  6. Cancellation. On CoHub, cancel more than 48 hours before the start for a full refund. Inside 48 hours, the booking can't be cancelled through CoHub. Other providers have their own rules.
  7. Lock-in. Monthly plans can renew automatically. Read the notice period.

Are there free options?

Public libraries are free to work from, with wifi and quiet tables, though they're not great for calls or client meetings. Some councils also run low-cost meeting rooms. For a quiet place to sit with a laptop for a few hours, start there. When you need a door, a screen or somewhere to meet a client, that's when paying for a room makes sense.

FAQ

How much does it cost to rent an office for a day in Sydney? When we checked on 12 October 2026, private day offices in the suburbs started from about $150 a day (Anytime Offices Randwick; Main Office Pagewood, plus GST). A desk for the day costs less: $55 or $60 at CoHub's Bankstown desks.

Can I rent an office by the hour? Yes. Many meeting rooms and day offices are bookable by the hour, but check the minimum. CoHub's Bankstown rooms start at $55 an hour, with a two-hour minimum and higher rates from 9am to 2pm on weekdays.

What is workspace rental? It's paying to use a desk, office or meeting room for a set time (an hour, a day or a month) instead of signing a commercial lease. On CoHub you book a licence to use the space for that time, not a lease.

What's the difference between a hot desk and a dedicated desk? A hot desk is any free desk on the day. A dedicated desk is kept for you, so you can leave things set up. Dedicated desks usually cost more per month, and they're worth it if you're in most days.

Is there a monthly option on CoHub? There's no membership. One Bankstown desk is $25 a day when you book 30 days or more ($750 for 30 days), and $35 a day for 7 or more days.

Are there booking fees on CoHub? No. You pay the listed price. CoHub's 15% fee comes out of the host's payout. See /legal/fees.

Where is CoHub available? All live CoHub spaces are currently in Bankstown, NSW. If you have a spare desk or room anywhere in Australia, you can list it free.

Need a desk or room this week? Book a desk from $55/day or see the Bankstown meeting rooms.
